CARROLLTON, Ga. (March 7, 2010) - The Rollins softball team split their last two games of the West Georgia Invitational against No.2 Alabama-Huntsville and West Alabama. The first game saw the Tars pull the upset against the second-ranked Chargers by a score of 2-1. Rollins came up short against West Alabama as a last inning charge fell just short, 9-8. With the split the Tars fall to 11-1 overall and look to keep the momentum going on their Georgia road trip.

Game one saw the Tars pull the upset against the Chargers behind a strong pitching performance from freshmen pitching sensation Kirsten Frame, who collected 11 strikeouts and only allowed two hits. The only run Frame gave up was a solo homerun to Whitney Hawkins in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the victory Frame improves to 9-0 on the season.

The Tars used smart base running to collect their two runs. Meredith Foster led the off the third inning with a single down the left field line. Rollins took advantage of three wild pitches and one passed ball to move home two runs. After a bunt single by Kelly Jones, Foster moved to third. Jones would also come around on a wild pitch to push the lead to 2-0.

After posting the two runs, Rollins would hold on with great defense and a clutch pitching performance from Frame.
Game two saw a different story for the Tars as West Alabama would prevail 9-8 in the closing game. Rollins elected to go with Christine Roser in the circle for the Tars.

The Tigers would race ahead to a three-run lead thanks to a two-run homerun from Kelli Hartley. Rollins would respond by scoring one run in both the first and second inning to draw within a run.

The third inning saw Rollins take the lead 4-3 as Amber Pederson led off with a double to center field. After a picture perfect sacrifice bunt from Kristina Holland, Pederson moved over to third. Christine Roser then hit a rocket down the third base line to score Pederson. Krista Rodden came up and placed the ball in the same spot as Roser and garnered a single, moving Roser to second.
Lauren Caldwell was next up and hit a single to the outfield, scoring Roser and giving Rollins the one-run lead.

The Tars would give up six runs in the top of the sixth to fall behind 9-4. The bottom half of the inning saw a furious rally and Rollins cut the lead to 9-7.

After shutting down the Tigers in the top half of the seventh, Rollins had one more chance to draw even or take the lead. After a Lauren Caldwell line out the Tars were down to their last two outs. Foster would come up and take a pitch over the left field fence to draw within one run. West Alabama would retire the next two batters to end the game.

The Tars come away the with a 5-1 record in the West Georgia Invitational and look to keep the momentum going through the rest of their trip and into conference play.
