WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 5, 2010)
- Rollins sophomore Jeff Morris continued his
hot streak and led the Tars' 10th-ranked men's tennis team over
seventh-ranked West Florida 7-2, Friday.
Rollins evens their record at 4-4 on the year while the Argos drop
to 2-2.
Morris and Neil Clausen scored a huge
victory for the Tars in the top flight doubles match, upsetting the
nation's third ranked team of Kevin Ducros and Leandro Ferreira by
a score of 9-7. The Tars picked up a second doubles point in the
No. 2 match as Pablo Seijo and Nick
Rowlands defeated Andrey Pozhideav and Lukas Larsson 8-5.
The victories gave Rollins a 2-1 lead and momentum going into
singles play.
Morris then rolled up his fourth straight win over a ranked player,
scoring a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ducros in the No. 1 singles match.
Clausen also had a big win for Rollins, downing Ferreira 6-4, 6-1
in the No. 2 match. Arturo
Baravalle was a 1-6, 7-6(2), 4-4(ret.) winner over Rosenfeld at
No. 4, Girts
Dzelde won the No. 5 match over Bateman 7-6(4), 1-6, 6-4 and Chris
Herbert got back Gunnels 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-2 at No. 6.
Rollins will head into their spring break trip on a two match win
streak with both coming over ranked opponents. Rollins will travel
to UC San Diego on Mar. 8, Cal Poly Pomona on Mar. 9 and meet
Hawaii Pacific Mar. 11.
