WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 4, 2010) -
Rollins and California (Pa.) split singles play, but a 2-1
advantage in doubles proved to be the difference as the 10th-ranked
Tars were upset by the 13th-ranked Vulcans, Thursday in Winter
Park.
Rollins drops to 5-3 on the season while Cal improves to 7-2.
The Tars point in doubles came in the No. 2 match as Roshni
Luthra and Lisa
Loft teamed to down Anastassiya Zherdeva and Galina Vishnikina
8-5. The Vulcans took the other two points as Margaret
Junker and Kayli Ragsdale were defeated
by Julia Cohen and Alina Stanila 8-5 in the top spot and Holly
Fleming and Stefania Tkach fell to Jade
Pondicas and Jutta Bornefeld 8-5 at No. 3.
Fleming picked up an upset in the No. 2 singles position, defeating
36th-ranked Kowalski 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-3. Junker also picked up a big
win for the Tars in the No. 4 match, getting past 29th-ranked
Stanila 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 while Clarke
Tatje won at No. 6 for Rollins, downing Pondicas 7-5, 6-2.
Rollins will return to action on Friday, Mar. 5 at home against
West Florida. Competition is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
