WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 26, 2010)-

The Rollins softball team captured the first game of a three game series against the Nova Southeastern Sharks, Friday evening, winning a 3-2 thriller. With the victory, Rollins improves to 24-4 overall and 3-1 in conference, while Nova falls to 27-10 and 5-2.

Rollins used timely hitting and huge pitching performance from freshmen Kirsten Frame. Frame went the distance for her 17th victory and complete game of the season. On the night, Frame allowed four hits and two runs, while striking out five.

The Tars used the home run ball to go ahead early and then to take the lead for good. Amber Pederson started things for the Tars collecting the first hit of the game on a bunt single in the third inning. After a wild pitch advanced Pederson to second, Christine Roser was due up and belted a two-run shot to center field that put the Tars up 2-0.

Nova would not go away easily as Jessica Hernandez drew a walk to give the Sharks a base runner in the top of the fourth. Due up next for the Sharks was Laura Saldadrigas, who drove a two-run home run to left field to knot the game up at two.
Rollins would respond immediately in the bottom half of the fourth to score the go ahead run. Jessica Moreland led things off with a laser shot home run to left field to give the Tars a 3-2 lead.

Nova would respond in the top half of the seventh with a valiant effort, but Frame showed poise and shutdown the attack of the Sharks.
The bottom of the seventh saw pinch hitter Dani Caron reach on a hit by pitch and then was moved over to third by two consecutive sacrifice bunts to put the tying run on third. With two outs and two on, Frame stepped out and got pinch hitter Brittany Phillips to ground out to the pitcher to end the game.

Rollins will look to complete the series sweep, Saturday, Mar. 27 against the Nova Southeastern Sharks starting at 1 p.m. at Lake Island Park.
