WINTER PARK, Fla. - An eighth inning solo home run provided the necessary edge for the Nova Southeastern Sharks to narrowly defeat Rollins baseball 3-2, Friday evening in Sunshine State Conference action.

The Tars' ace Stephen HIscock tossed another outstanding performance despite the no decision. The Naugatuck, Conn., native lowered his ERA to 3.06 and struckout five Shark batters to increase his mark to a team-best 53.

Hiscock pitched 7.1 innings for Rollins before being relieved by senior Danny Clark (1-2). Clark pitched the final two-thirds and gave up the eventual game-winning run to NSU's designated hitter Haven Fitzsimmonds.

The Tars were led offensively by Taylor Ferguson who was 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Charlton, Mass., native increased his team-high batting average to .390 and recorded his 15th double, a SSC-best.

Ferguson led off the fourth inning as he roped a double to right center. Left fielder Tony Brunetti hit a sharp ground ball to first, which was misplayed by Nova's Dusty Maggs. On the Maggs error, Ferguson came around to score after a collision at home plate with catcher Matt Fisher who dropped the ball.

First baseman Kevin Mager advanced Brunetti to third before Ryan Luker recorded the sacrifice fly to give the Tars a 2-1 lead.

Nova scattered their three runs with one in the third and fifth innings before the solo blast.

Rollins and Nova both finished with seven hits apiece, while the Sharks tallied two errors.

The Tars and Sharks resume their three-game series, Saturday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
