MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 21, 2010) -
The Rollins women's tennis team earned its fifth shutout of the
season, defeating St. Thomas University 9-0 on the road Sunday.
The 10th-ranked Tars improve to 11-4 with the victory while the
Bobcats fall to 2-8.
Rollins eased through the doubles competition, surrendering just
four total points. Margaret Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale defeated Manuela Gil and Ydsia Quintero 8-3 in the top
flight while Roshni Luthra and Lisa Loft scored an
8-1 win over Bridget Castillo and Stephanie Pfeffer at No. 2. Holly
Fleming and Stefania Tkach picked up a
shutout in the No. 3 match, blanking Camille Allen and Alina
Ramirez 8-0.
Rollins then went on to win each of the singles matches in straight
sets.
Luthra won the top flight over Gil 6-3, 6-3 with Fleming taking
Castillo 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 and Tkach winning 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3
match. Junker shutout Pfeffer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, Ragsdale won 6-0,
6-1 over Allen in the No. 5 match and Steele took Giovanardi 6-1,
6-2 at No. 6.
Rollins will be back on the courts on Tuesday, Mar. 23 hosting
Division I University of Central Arkansas at 3:30 p.m.
