WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 2, 2010) -
The 11th-ranked Rollins women's tennis team had dropped their
last two, both to top-5 opponents, and got back on track in a big
way Tuesday, defeating NAIA 7th-ranked Brenau University 8-1.
Rollins improves to 5-2 on the season and now heads into a key
stretch against top Division II competition in the coming weeks.
Brenau falls to 3-4 on the year.
Rollins got started on the right foot, winning each of the three
doubles matches. Margaret Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale teamed to defeat Lyn See Choo and Kate Mazackova 8-4
in the top flight while Holly Fleming and Stefania
Tkach made quick work of Hannah Thompson and Eline Nagels, 8-1,
in the No. 3 match.
Roshni Luthra and Lisa Loft went to the
wire with Jolene Wong and Liubov Orlova in the No. 2 position with
the Tars duo prevailing 9-7.
Singles play saw the Tars use their depth to cruise to the win. In
the No. 1 position, 20th-ranked Luthra downed Mazackova 6-3, 6-1
and Tkach took care of Orlova by the same score at No. 3. Junker
was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Thompson at No. 4, Loft took Wong 6-3,
6-4 at No. 5 and Clarke
Tatje won 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 at No. 6.
The Rollins women's tennis team will be back on the courts on
Thursday, Mar. 3 hosting 13th-ranked California (Pa.) at the Martin
Tennis Complex.
