AUSTIN, TEXAS (March 9, 2010) -
After traveling to Texas and sitting through two days of weather
delays, the 10th-ranked Rollins women's tennis team got their
spring break trip started with a 7-2 defeat of 14th-ranked St.
Edward's University.
The win improves the Tars to 7-3 on the season while the
Hilltoppers fall to an even 4-4.
Rollins' top doubles team of Margaret Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale scored an upset win in the No. 1 flight, defeating
22nd-ranked Paige Rachel and Audrey Tomkins 8-3. The Tars completed
the doubles sweep as Roshni Luthra and Lisa Loft took Mary
Bain and Liz Jacobi 8-5 in the No. 2 mach and Holly
Fleming and Stefania Tkach won 8-3 over
Heather Brien and Caryn McGraw.
In singles play, the Tars top three players sealed the win with
three set victories. In the top flight, 20th-ranked Luthra took
Rachel 2-6, 7-6, 7-4 with Fleming upsetting 46th-ranked Tompkins
4-6, 6-0, 7-6 at No. 2. Tkach was a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 winner over Bain
at No. 3 and Clarke
Tatje downed McGraw 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 6 match.
Rollins will conclude play of their spring break trip the Lonestar
State on Wednesday, Mar. 10 at St. Mary's.
