WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 28, 2010) - Jeff
Morris
picked off a ranked player for the second straight match, but
the Fighting Knights proved to be too deep as the 10th-ranked
Rollins men's tennis team fell to the third-ranked Lynn 8-1,
Sunday.
Rollins falls to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in Sunshine State
Conference play. Of the Tars four losses, three have come to
Division II's top three teams (Armstrong Atlantic, Barry, Lynn).
Lynn improves to 5-1 overall and 2-0 SSC.
Morris met a ranked player for the second straight match and picked
up another upset, downing eighth-ranked Alessandro Sarra 3-6, 6-4,
13-11 at No. 1 singles on Sunday. On Friday against Barry, he
defeated 11th-ranked Marco Mokrzycki and is now 5-1 on the year
with his only loss coming to the seventh-ranked player in the
nation.
Lynn jumped out to a 3-0 lead, defeating the host Tars in each of
the three doubles matches. Morris and Neil Clausen fell to Sarra
and Willi Wolfer 8-4 in the No. 1 match while Pablo
Seijo and Nick Rowlands dropped an 8-2
decision to fifth-ranked Alex Voirin and Luca Pavanelli. Arturo Baravalle and
Girts
Dzelde were turned back by Tomas Racak and George Laffey 8-6 at
No. 3.
In singles play, 14th-ranked Clausen dropped the No. 2 match to
19th-ranked Racak 6-3, 6-0 with Seijo falling to 32nd ranked
Pavanelli 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3. Baravalle was downed by 26th-ranked
Wolfer 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4, Chris
Herbert fell to Voirin 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 match and Dzelde
dropped a 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 decision to Laffey at No. 6.
Rollins will look to rebound on Tuesday, Mar. 2 against Northwood
(Mich.) at the Martin Tennis Complex.
