Amber
Heistan led the Rollins women's basketball team with 16 points
and eight rebounds in the 2009-10 regular season finale with a
68-51 victory over the Eckerd Tritons, Saturday afternoon at Warden
Arena.
With the win, Rollins ends the regular season with a 19-8 record
and 11-5 conference record heading into the Sunshine State
Conference Tournament. The Tars secured the second seed and will
host Wednesday's first round game.
Heistan's 16 points marked her 19th double-digit
performance of the season for Rollins. Heistan, second on the team
in scoring with 278 points, increased her points per average to
10.3.
Senior forward Brittainy Daiger finished
with 15 points and was two rebounds shy of a double-double as she
hauled in eight boards. Daiger leads the team in both categories
as she's scored 283 points on the season, a career-best, and has
collected 156 rebounds.
Heistan was 4-of-5 from 3-point range to pace the Tars offense.
Rollins shot 44.4 percent (8-for-18) from beyond the arch and shot
45.6 percent from the floor.
Sophomore guard Kourtnie Berry led the way
in assists with eight, while Daiger was the team-high in steals
with four.
Rollins received 19 points off the bench as Tera McDaniel and Jessica
Barker paved the way with five points each. The Tars also
scored 17 points off of 17 Triton turnovers en route to the blowout
victory.
For the Tritons, who end their season with a 10-15 record and
4-12 in conference, were led by Kati Rausberg's 16 points. Ashley
Lutz and Krystal Charles rounded out the Eckerd scorers in
double-digits with 12 and 10 respectively.
Rollins raced out on a 9-2 run to kick off the opening minutes
of the game. After maintaining the advantage over the next four
minutes, Eckerd sparked an 8-0 run to take its first lead of the
game at 17-16 with 9:19 remaining.
The Tars answered with a Daiger jumper and back-to-back Heistan
3-pointers to build the lead back to seven. Rollins continued to
apply pressure and went into the break leading by 12 at 33-21,
closing out the half on a 16-4 run.
In the second half, Rollins proved to be too much as it never
relinquished its double-digit lead.
Rollins continued its reign in the all-time series as they now
possess a 63-10 advantage over Eckerd and have captured 15 games in
the previous 16 meetings.
Prior to the start of the game, the Tars honored their three
seniors, Daiger, Barker and Jessica Pressley for their
time and commitment over the past four years.
The Tars' Sunshine State Conference Tournament opening game will
be determined after the conclusion of the Saturday evening games.
Rollins will host the first contest, Wednesday, March 3 at 5:30
