WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 11, 2010) -
The 11th-ranked Rollins women's tennis team won their second
straight match by shutout, blanking 28th-ranked Saint Leo 9-0 in
non-conference action Thursday.
The Tars move to 2-0 on the season while dropping the Lions to
1-4.
Rollins set the tone early by winning two of the three doubles
match-ups by shutout.
Roshni Luthra and Allie
Steele teamed to beat Gina Schifano and Christine Clyne 8-0 at
No. 2 while Holly Fleming and Stefania
Tkach defeated Chloe Andersson and Hannah Beard 8-0 at No. 3.
In the top flight, Margaret Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale downed Shaena Keefe 8-1 to complete the Tars
sweep.
The Tars continued to roll into singles, winning each of the six
matches in straight sets.
Junker shutout her opponent for the second straight match,
defeating Andersson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 while doubles partner
Ragsdale was also a winner by shutout, downing Clyne 6-0, 6-0 at
No. 5. In the No. 1 position, 21st-ranked Luthra took McDonald 6-2,
6-2 with Fleming posting a 6-3, 6-4 win over Keefe at No. 2.
Tkach was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Schifano at No. 3 and Clarke Tatje scored a
6-1, 6-0 win over Beard in the No. 6 position.
The Rollins women's tennis team will be back at home on Tuesday,
Feb. 16, hosting Florida Tech at 3:30 p.m.
