MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (February 10, 2010) - The
Rollins women's basketball team dropped back-to-back games for the
first time this season after a 63-55 loss to Barry, Wednesday.
Rollins falls to 15-7 on the year and drops to third place in
the Sunshine State Conference with a record of 7-4. Barry improves
to 17-5 and takes over sole possession of second place in the SSC
at 8-3.
Amber
Heistan hit four, 3-pointers and led three Tars in
double-figures with 14 points, while also pulling down seven
rebounds. Paris Moore netted 11 points
while Jasmine Bradley added 10
points.
The Tars shot just 36 percent (20-of-55) from the field while
the Buccaneers hit 43 percent (21-of-49). Rollins won the battle on
the boards, outrebounding Barry 34-32 and forced 17 Bucs
turnovers.
Tilde Ahlin hit four, 3-pointers and led Barry with 16 points.
SSC leading scorer Mariesa Greene tallied 14 points, while Shaunna
Suttington notched 12.
Neither team could gain the upper hand in the early going with
four straight points from Brooke
Burgess giving Rollins a 17-12 point lead halfway through the
opening period. Barry tied the score on the next two possessions
and the teams again traded baskets for the next five minutes,
leading to a 22-22 tie with five minutes to play in the half.
A Jasmine Bradley layup and Kristina
Mingos 3-pointer gave the Tars a five point lead, but the Bucs
ended the period on a 10-2 run and took a 32-27 lead into
intermission.
Barry extended the gap to as much as seven early in the second
half, but Rollins countered with a 9-0 run later in the frame,
punctuated by a Heistan triple, and gained a 47-44 with 10 minutes
to play.
Barry answered by putting together a 10-0 run over the next
three minutes and pushed the lead back to seven, 54-47. After
closing to within two in the final five minutes, Rollins couldn't
get over the hump and suffered their fourth league loss of the
season.
Rollins will be back in action on Saturday, February 13 at 2
p.m., hosting conference leader Tampa in the Warden Arena. Fans can
