WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 26, 2010) -
The Rollins women's basketball team was firing on all cylinders
on Friday and routed Missouri - St. Louis, 87-40 to open up the
Tars Thanksgiving Classic.
The victory moves Rollins to 6-0 on the season while the Tritons
drop to 3-1. The Tars have now won their last three games by an
average of 52 points and are defeating opponents by an average of
28 points over the season.

Mingos led five Tars in double-figures with 16 points. Brooke
Burgess was 6-of-7 from the field and added 13 points while Sarah
Blackburn netted 11 points and hauled in six rebounds. Tera
McDaniel and Kourtnie
Berry each scored 10 points with McDaniel also handing out
seven assists and racking up six steals.
Caitlyn Moody paced UMSL with a game-high 17 points while Hana
Haden and Kelly Mitchell each added six.
Rollins had its best shooting night of the season, hitting
30-of-55 (55 percent) while holding UMSL to just 12-of-64 (19
percent). The Tars also earned a big edge on the boards,
outrebounding the Tritons 45-36.
Rollins opened up a 3-0 lead over the first two minutes with a
Moody jumper pulling the Tritons to within one, 3-2. From then on,
it was all Rollins as the Tars outscored their visitors 22-0 over
the next seven minutes to lead 25-2 halfway through the first
period.
The shooting woes for UMSL continued while Rollins stayed hot
and posted a 46-11 lead at the half.
Rollins began the second half on a 15-0 run and went up by 50,
61-11 with 14:18 to play. The Tritons came back and cut the Tars
advantage to 46, 66-20, but Rollins snuffed out the run and led by
as much as 57 late, cruising to the eventual 47 point victory.
Rollins will be back in action on day two of the Rollins
Thanksgiving Classic, meeting Georgia Southwestern at 1 p.m. on
Saturday, Nov. 27. The Hurricanes defeated Florida Tech 65-56 in
the second game of the tournament on Friday. Tech and UMSL will
meet at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27.
