WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 23, 2010) - In a Sunshine State Conference showdown where both teams hit the court with matching records, Rollins came out victorious as they downed Saint Leo University 64-50 on Saturday afternoon in Warden Arena.

The Tars (12-5, 5-2) drop the Lions to an overall mark of 11-6, and 4-3 in conference action, and move themselves into a tie for second in the league standings with Florida Southern, just one game back of Tampa.

Led by Brittainy Daiger and Amber Heistan with 12 and 10 points respectively, the Tars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Daiger shot 5-of-10 from the field, and was a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe, while Heistan went 4-of-12 and 2-for-6 from the line. Rollins held the advantage throughout the entire contest, with their largest lead of 22 points coming in the first half with 2:47 remaining before intermission.

Defensively Rollins was on fire, out-rebounding the Lions 44-37 with help from game-leader Kristina Mingos who secured a season-high 11 boards. Mingos also had a season-high afternoon at the free throw line, draining a perfect 4-for-4 on the way to nine points overall.

The Tars dominated in steals 15-9, with sophomore duo Jasmine Bradley and Paris Moore snatching four each, while Brooke Burgess grabbed three of her own to add to her nine point game.

The Lions were headed-up by Sierra Williams who totaled 11 points and nine rebounds on the afternoon. But with Rollins sinking 24 points off of 24 Saint Leo turnovers, the Lions found themselves in a hole too deep to claw out of.

Rollins dominated in points in the paint 28-10, points off turnovers 24-8, second chance points 16-6, fast break opportunities 11-6, and points off the bench 27-11.

The Tars, who have won 26 straight contests against the Lions and 17 straight home conference matchups, return to action on Wednesday, January 27 when they hit the road to take on Eckerd College.

Tipoff against the Tritons is set for 5:30 p.m. in St. Petersburg, Fla. Fans who cannot make it to the game can catch all of the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com, as well as locally on 91.5 FM, WPRK.
