WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 29, 2009) -
Climbing the NSCAA Division II National Poll one notch to sit at
No. 8, the Rollins women's soccer team enters into their fourth
week of regular season action with an overall mark of 6-1-1, and
1-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Rollins enters into this week's matchups with plenty of momentum
off of a 3-2 victory over SSC rival, and conference preseason
favorite, Saint Leo last week. Sophomore defender Charlotte
Murrell lifted the Tars to victory with the game winning goal in
their first SSC contest of the season with a goal in the 73rd
minute of action, and played a solid defensive game for Rollins to
hold the Lions to just three shots and two shots on goal all
game.
The Tars hit the pitch in their first contest of the week on
Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. when they travel to Melbourne,
Fla. to take on No. 16 Florida Tech in a game that holds not only
conference, but regional and national implications as well.
The last time out against FIT, then-second seeded Rollins picked
up a big 4-0 victory over sixth seed Florida Tech in the second
round of NCAA Division II South Region action on November 16,
2008. Four Tars put goals on the scoreboard, with two tallying
assists while Dillingham collected five saves and shut the Panthers
out of scoring action. Rollins dominated play throughout the
entire contest as they led in shots 19-11, shots on goal 13-6, and
corner kicks 5-0.
After today's matchup, the Tars return home to host Eckerd
College in their third conference game of the season, but Rollins
first looks to drop FIT and stay perfect on their conference mark.
Fans will be able to catch all of the action of both contests live
on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
