WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 13, 2009) - Junior
forward Chelsea Brady recorded a new
program record for individual points in a game as she topped off a
hat trick with an assist on the way to a 9-0 Rollins victory over
Thomas University (Ga.) on Sunday afternoon. The No. 9-ranked Tars
advance to 4-1-1 on the season, while the Nighthawks drop to an
overall mark of 2-3-0.
Five Tars put additional points on the scoreboard to aid Brady's
hat-trick, with freshman forward Elise Spearing
collecting two, while Ashley Waplinger, Charlotte
Murrell, Meagan Thomas, Annie
Pippert added one goal apiece. Waplinger and Spearing
contributed two assists each on top of their goals, while Murrell
and freshman Whitney Rohrer each
assisted on one goal as well.
Having another solid day between the pipes for Rollins was
sophomore Michelle Dillingham, who
notched her fifth shutout of the season. The Debary, Fla. native
is just four shutouts away from tying the single season record of
nine, set by Francesca Nicoloso (2003). Dillingham made two saves
on the afternoon after seeing two shots on goal in the first half,
and continues to build upon her save percentage on the season which
currently stands at .852. Stepping into cage in the second half
was junior Jessica Deese, who was able
to make a save of her own and keep the Nighthawks scoreless.
Thomas was headed-up by goalkeepers Heather Collins and Danielle
Boissonneau, who recorded eight and seven saves, respectively.
With an onslaught of shots being fired their way throughout the
full 90 minutes of action, the Nighthawks defensive unit did a
solid job of keeping the Tars in check. Offensively, Thomas was
very limited as they had minimal opportunities in their attacking
end.
The Tars dominated the Nighthawks in all areas of the field as
play was held to their attacking half for the majority of the
contest. Recording a new record in total shots for a game as they
totaled 43 shots on the day, besting the last total of 37 which was
recorded back on August 25, 2006 against Briar Cliff. Rollins
stifled Thomas 43-3 on the board, and led in shots on goal 24-3.
Rollins registered a new program high for most points in a game
with nine goals and seven assists for 25 points overall.
The last time the Tars earned a 9-0 shutout in a contest was in
the program's first year of NCAA action in just their third game,
with Rollins topping Embry Riddle on September 18, 1997 on the
Eagles' home pitch in Daytona, Fla. The last time the Tars tallied
nine goals in a contest was on September 29, 2000, in a 9-2 victory
over Flagler College in Winter Park, Fla.
The Tars will travel to St. Augustine, Fla. to take on Flagler
College for their next contest. Kickoff against the Saints is set
for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16. Fans will be able to
catch all of the action on livestats on the Tars Sports Network at
RollinsSports.com.
