MIAMI SHORES, Fla.
The Rollins baseball team suffered a 16-0 loss against the
fourth-ranked Barry Buccaneers in a non-conference game at
Feinbloom Field, Tuesday afternoon.
Rollins allowed six home runs in the game and falls to 22-22 on the
season, while the Buccaneers improve to 38-6.
The Tars tallied eight hits in the contest, but gave up 17 as Barry
added to its conference-leading batting average.
Rollins starter Andrew Loynaz (0-3) was dealt the loss after
going three innings and surrendering three runs. Loynaz, a native
of Miami, Fla., did not give up an earned run and registered a
strike out in his second career start and lowered his era to
7.45.
Marty Cornish came in and pitched the next three
innings and finished with four hits and two runs. Danny
Clark and Chad Giannuzzi threw the final two innings and
gave up a total of 11 runs on 11 hits.
The Buccaneers starter Corey Witkowski (5-0) remained perfect on
the season with six shutout innings and limiting the Tars to just
five hits. T. J. Mullins tossed the next two scoreless innings
with two hits, while Brian Santana closed out the game for
Barry.
Yudelmis Hernandez hit two bombs for the Buccaneers and broke a
school record as he continues to lead the conference with 20. Yan
Gomes hit his 18th homer of the season, while Chris Leon and Manny
Pedrozo both tallied their 10th of the season.
For the Tars, Bryan Bennett provided the lone bright spot as he
finished 2-for-4 to record his 19th multi-hit game.
Rollins and the Buccaneers will meet for their three-game series
beginning, Friday, May 1 at 6 p.m. The Tars return to the diamond,
Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m. at home against Eckerd.
