WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 2, 2009)
Rollins cruised through doubles and had just one singles match go
past two sets as the 9th ranked Tars downed Saint Leo 9-0 Thursday
evening.
Rollins improves to 15-2 overall (4-2 Sunshine State Conference)
and completes the season sweep over Saint Leo. The Lions fall to
7-9, 1-3 on the year.
Margaret Junker and Kayli Ragsdale, the 13th ranked team in
Division II, blanked Lina Benkirane and Gina Schifano 8-0 in the
top doubles spot. Roshni Luthra and Holly Fleming beat Shaena Keefe
and Jeanette McDonald 8-3 at No. 2 while Allie Steele and Stefaniya
Tkach defeated Hanna Beard and Lara King 8-1 at No. 3 and put the
Tars up 3-0 heading into singles play.
Roshni Luthra, playing her first match as the 10th ranked
singles player in the nation, scored a 6-3, 6-1 win over Benkirane
in the top spot with Fleming taking Keefe 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2.
Junker scored her fifth shutout of the season, blanking Schifano
6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Steele took King 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5,
Ragsdale won No. 6 6-0, 6-0 over Beard and Tkach was a 6-3, 3-6,
10-6 winner over McDonald at No. 3.
Rollins will be back on the courts Saturday, April 4 at home
against Nova Southeastern. Competition is slated to begin at 10:30
a.m.
