ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 17, 2009)-

The Rollins College softball team captured the series opening win against Eckerd Friday night, 3-0.
With the win Rollins improves to 38-8 overall and 10-6 in Sunshine State Conference play.

Rollins quickly jumped out in front of the Eckerd Tritons, as the Tars posted two runs in the first inning. Monica Meadows started the inning by reaching on an infield single to third base. After a sacrifice bunt by Kristina Holland, Meadows moved to second and then to third on a pass ball. Christine Roser walked and then stole second to give the Tars two runners in scoring position. Missy Thogmartin collected two RBIs as she singled through the middle to give the Tars a 2-0 lead.

Rollins posted another run in the fifth inning as Kaycie Bevis reached on a single to third base. Bevis moved to second on a ground out by Monica Meadows and then would score on a throwing error by the third basemen, allowing Kristina Holland to reach safely.

Thogmartin led the Tars, as she went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a stellar defensive performance at shortstop. Monica Meadows, Christine Roser, and Kaycie Bevis all registered runs scored.

Nicole Anderson collected her 21st win of the season, while striking out 16 and dropping her ERA to 0.75. Anderson continues her dominance that made her NCFA National Pitcher of the Week.

Anderson ties the record for strikeouts in a game for the third time in her career, as she recorded 16 against the Tritons.

The Tars return to the diamond Saturday, April 18 at 4 p.m. to face the Eckerd Tritons in doubleheader action.
