ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 17, 2009)-
The Rollins College softball team captured the series opening
win against Eckerd Friday night, 3-0.
With the win Rollins improves to 38-8 overall and 10-6 in Sunshine
State Conference play.
Rollins quickly jumped out in front of the Eckerd Tritons, as the
Tars posted two runs in the first inning. Monica
Meadows started the inning by reaching on an infield single to
third base. After a sacrifice bunt by Kristina
Holland, Meadows moved to second and then to third on a pass
ball. Christine
Roser walked and then stole second to give the Tars two runners
in scoring position. Missy
Thogmartin collected two RBIs as she singled through the middle
to give the Tars a 2-0 lead.
Rollins posted another run in the fifth inning as Kaycie
Bevis reached on a single to third base. Bevis moved to second
on a ground out by Monica
Meadows and then would score on a throwing error by the third
basemen, allowing Kristina
Holland to reach safely.
Thogmartin led the Tars, as she went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a
stellar defensive performance at shortstop. Monica
Meadows, Christine
Roser, and Kaycie
Bevis all registered runs scored.
Nicole
Anderson collected her 21st win of the season, while striking
out 16 and dropping her ERA to 0.75. Anderson continues her
dominance that made her NCFA National Pitcher of the Week.
Anderson ties the record for strikeouts in a game for the third
time in her career, as she recorded 16 against the Tritons.
The Tars return to the diamond Saturday, April 18 at 4 p.m. to face
the Eckerd Tritons in doubleheader action.
