BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 17, 2009) –
Rollins avenged an earlier loss and advanced to the Sunshine State
Conference Tournament final Friday as the No. 9 Tars downed No. 18
Florida Southern 5-1.
Rollins will match up with No. 2 Lynn in the championship match
on Saturday, April 18 at 8:30 a.m. In the regular season, the
Fighting Knights beat the Tars 5-2.
The Tars were bested by the Mocs 5-4 in their regular season
match-up and were out for revenge right from the start Friday by
sweeping doubles play.
In the top flight, 13th ranked Kayli
Ragsdale and Margaret
Junker downed 23rd ranked Senka Softic and Ashley Hungerford
8-6, avenging a 9-8 defeat in their regular season clash.
Roshni
Luthra and Holly
Fleming downed Veronika Kovacikova and Erin Conroy 8-5 in the
No. 2 position while Allie
Steele and Stefaniya
Tkach defeated Nora Baertschi and Amanda Carns 8-3 at No.
3.
In singles play, the Tars dropped the No. 1 match to FSC as 10th
ranked Luthra fell to 7th ranked Softic 6-3, 6-0, but sealed up the
win with two quick victories.
Junker won the No. 4 position over Kovacikova 6-3, 6-0 and
Steele was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Carns at No. 6.
