WINTER PARK, Fla. –

Sophomore Matt White pitched six scoreless innings to guide the Rollins College baseball team to a 6-0 victory over visiting Saint Anselm, Thursday evening at Alfond Stadium.

A native of Bellingham, Mass., White (1-0), surrendered five hits and allowed two walks in his first start of the season to lower his ERA to 3.46 for Rollins (10-6).

Junior Marc Hewett tossed two relief innings giving up two hits, while striking out three, before sophomore Alex Venegas closed out the game in the ninth unblemished in his first appearance of the 2009 campaign.

Catcher Ben Hewett went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double to pace Rollins at the plate. Hewett leads the team with a .436 average and six doubles.

Second baseman Ryan Luker and Jesse More both added two hits apiece. More, who recorded a double and a triple, and designated hitter Eugene Martinez drove in two RBIs, respectively. Luker currently has the team's longest hitting streak of six games.

Centerfielder Tim Murphy recorded a team-high two hits to lead the Hawks (2-6), who stranded eight runners to Rollins' six.

Starter Nick Barese was dealt the loss going 6. 1 innings allowing six runs off nine hits and two walks. Joe Latino finished the contest giving up one hit and a walk in 1.2 innings of work.

Rollins got on the board in the second inning when Luker led off with a single to shallow left field. More smashed his only double of the game toward left center over Murphy's head to score Luker from first.

Leading 1-0, Rollins added a pair of runs in the fourth to increase its lead. Hewett blasted a ground ball up the middle, which was snagged by Saint Anselm's second baseman, but was unable to make the throw to force the out. With Hewett on first, More roped the first pitch he saw resulting in a triple to left scoring Hewett.

Martinez did his part on the ensuing at-bat with a sacrifice fly to right allowing More to score from third. In the sixth Martinez again used a sacrifice fly as Hewett began the inning with a double. After Hewett advanced to third from a More ground out, Martinez hit a fly ball to center that scored the tagging Hewett.

Rollins secured the victory in the seventh by scoring two more runs.

The Tars return to action, Friday, March 6 when they host Stonehill at 7 p.m.
