TAMPA, Fla. (March 1, 2009) – Rollins
picked up their second Sunshine State Conference shutout in as many
days as the 15th ranked Tars beat Tampa 9-0 Sunday morning.
Rollins stays perfect on the year and improves to 6-0 overall
and 3-0 in conference play while Tampa falls to 0-9, 0-4 SSC.
In the top doubles flight, No. 15 Margaret
Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale held their ranking with an 8-0 win over Lauren Holt
and Alexandra Arnold. Roshni
Luthra and Holly
Fleming took Kourtney Stark and Claire Runge 8-6 at No. 2 while
Stefaniya
Tkach and Allie
Steele downed Victoria Bell and Emily Kennedy 8-3 in the No. 3
match.
Rollins was just as impressive in singles play, winning all but
one match in straight sets.
Luthra took Holt 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Fleming downed
Stark 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 match. In the No. 3 slot, Tkach took
the first set over Bell 6-1, but fell 3-6 in the second. Tkach won
the point for Rollins with a 6-4 third set winner.
Junker downed Rundge 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, Ragsdale was a 6-3, 6-0
winner at No. 5 and Bradleigh
Lore won 6-0, 6-1 over Lisa Montgomery at No. 6.
After playing back to back matches over the weekend, Rollins
will take Monday off before hosting a pair on Tuesday and
Wednesday. The Tars will welcome Lake Superior State on Tuesday and
No. 9 California (Pa.) on Wednesday with both matches slated to
start at 3:30 p.m.
