SAINT LEO, Fla. (February 27, 2009) Nicole
Anderson tallied 14 strikeouts to lead Rollins past 16th ranked
Saint Leo 2-1 in the Sunshine State Conference opener for both
schools Friday.
The Tars (11-1, 1-0 SSC) jumped up two runs early and snuffed
out a late Lions (7-8, 0-1 SSC) rally for their 10th straight
victory.
Anderson improved to 7-0 on the year, allowing one run on four
hits and two walks to go along with her season best 14 strikeouts.
Ashley Urbanik suffered the loss for Saint Leo, allowing two runs
on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Kristina
Holland went 2-2 with an RBI to pace the Rollins offense. Christine
Roser went 1-3 with a solo homerun in the third inning, which
proved to be the difference maker.
Rollins manufactured a run in the first as Monica
Meadows drew a lead off walk and was eventually plated on a
Holland base knock, putting the Tars up 1-0. Roser then put the
Tars up 2-0 in the third with a solo homer, her third of the
season.
Saint Leo cut the Tars advantage in half as Tatiana Casis
blasted the first pitch of the fourth inning over the fence, making
the score 2-1.
The Lions threatened in the bottom of the seventh, putting two
on base with no outs. Anderson then shut the door by striking out
the next three and stopping the Saint Leo threat.
Rollins and Saint Leo will complete their three game series on
Saturday, February 28 with a 4 p.m. doubleheader. Fans can catch
