SAINT LEO, Fla. (February 17, 2009) –
Rollins swept through doubles and won all but the top singles spot
as the No. 15 Tars downed Saint Leo 8-1 in nonconference action
Tuesday.
Rollins improved to 2-0 on the young season with the win while
dropping Saint Leo to 0-5.
The 15th ranked doubles team of Margaret
Junker and Kayli
Ragsdale won the No. 1 doubles spot 8-3 over Lina Benkirane and
Shaena Keefe. Holly
Fleming and Roshni
Luthra teamed to win the No. 2 position 8-4 over Gina Schifano
and Taylor Cleaves while Stefaniya
Tkach and Allie
Steele teamed to take the No. 3 match 8-1 over Hannah Beard and
Lara King.
In singles play, Benkirane bested Fleming 6-3, 6-3 in the top
spot to score the Lions' lone point. Luthra was a 6-3, 6-2 winner
over Keefe at No. 2 while Tkach blanked Schifano 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
Junker won at No. 4 over Cleaves 6-0, 6-0; Steele won No. 5 over
King 6-3, 6-0 and Ragsdale took Beard 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Tars will be back in action on Friday, February 20th at home
against Division I Stephen F. Austin. Competition is slated to
begin at 3 p.m. at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex.
