WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 20, 2009) -
The Tars led early, but a tough shooting night proved to be too
much to overcome as the Rollins women's basketball team fell to
Montevallo 56-38 in the first game of the Cick-fil-A/North Georgia
Classic, Friday evening.
Brittainy Daiger paced
Rollins (2-1) with 10 points and four rebounds while Paris
Moore chipped in eight points and three assists.
Montevallo (2-0) was led by 10 points each from Manal Cali and
Alicia Lewis while Alex Sanabria pulled down a game-high seven
rebounds.
The Tars shot just 24 percent (15-62) in the contest, including a
3-of-17 (18 percent) mark from the 3-point line. The Lady Falcons
went 24-of-64 (37 percent) from the floor and also outrebounded
Rollins 46-44.
Jasmine Bradley connected
from long range five minutes into the game to give Rollins an early
12-8 lead. UM battled back to retake the lead before a Daiger
jumper at the 9:48 mark put the Tars back on top as the lead
changed hands twice more with a Moore layup giving Rollins a 19-18
advantage with 5:56 to play in the half. That, however, would be
the Tars' last points of the period as they missed seven shots and
committed five turnovers in their final 12 possessions while
Montevallo rattled off an 11-0 run to take a 29-19 lead into the
break.
The second half began just as the first ended for the Tars until a
Daiger jumper 90 seconds into the period stopped the Rollins
drought after nearly seven minutes. Rollins then got into a groove
and pulled to within seven, 33-26, with 15 minutes to play. A quick
7-0 run by the Falcons put the Tars back down by double digits
halfway through the final stanza and the UM lead would get to as
much as 22 late in the game before settling on a final score of
56-38.
Rollins will play host North Georgia in the finale of the event on
Saturday at 4 p.m. Fans can watch all the action by accessing the
