Teuma led Rollins with her second double-double of the season
with 13 points and 11 boards to lead the 12th-ranked Rollins
women's basketball team cruised past Flagler, 83-75, Wednesday
evening at Flagler Gymnasium.
Freshman guard Jasmine Bradley and Jessica
Pressley each netted a team-high 14 points to pace the Tars
(15-1). Bradley scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half, while
Pressley scored 12 of her 14 points from 3-point range. Junior
guard Brittainy Daiger rounded out the Rollin's players
in double figures with 11.
Guard Jen Mitchell paved the way for Flagler (2-16) scoring 15
points in the first half en route to a 19-point performance, a
game-best. Chanti Beckett followed with 12 points, while Lauren
Bailie trailed with 10 points.
The Saints scored on its opening possession which preceded
back-to-back buckets from the Tars' Daiger and Teuma. With the 4-2
lead, Karlyn Reddish sank a 3-pointer from the right elbow to
regain the Flagler lead. After Pressley scorched the net on the
ensuing possession with a three of her own, Rollins regained the
lead for the final time with 17:20 remaining in the first half.
The Tars maintained the lead throughout the half despite the
Saint's attempt at the 11:26 mark on a Annie Maloney jumper to cut
the Rollins lead to two. After a mini 9-3 run, Rollins continued
its defensive pressure including a first half press that forced 15
turnovers to give the Tars a seven-point lead into intermission,
47-40.
Rollins stormed out in the second half building an early
double-digit advantage at 53-42 with 17:50 remaining after jumpers
from Teuma, Rachael Malatesta and Daiger respectively. After
even play over the next 10 minutes the Tars increased the lead to a
high 21 points following a Pressley 3-pointer with 4:57 to
play.
In bench points, Rollins out-scored the Saints, 27-22 and scored
20 fast break points. The Tars also scored 12 more points in the
paint than its counterpart, while both teams committed 25 turnovers
in the contest.
The Tars continue to own the all-time series against Flagler,
24-11. Rollins swept the Saints this season after capturing a
69-35 victory at Warden Arena back on Dec. 15.
The women's basketball team returns to action, Saturday, Jan. 24
at 2 p.m. against Barry at Warden Arena.
