Rollins Comes Up Short in NCAA Tourney Battle with Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (May 10, 2008) ' Rollins was down 2-1 after doubles and fought all the way through singles, but came up short in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Final, falling to Barry 5-3. The loss ends the ninth ranked Tars' season with a record of 23-3 while the eighth ranked Buccaneers improve to 20-6.

Barry scored a surprise upset in the top doubles spot as No. 11 Ildiko Csordas and Caroline Stevens beat No. 9 Roshni Luthra and Marnie Mahler 8-2. Rollins then knotted the score at 1-1 with a victory in No. 2 doubles behind Sonia Bernal and Margaret Junker's 9-7 win over Helen Wisniewski and Angie Werschel. The hosts earned a second doubles point in the No. 3 match with Olivia Lilien and Berit Peterson defeating Silvia Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko 8-6.

In singles action, Lilien downed Cassie Webster at No. 6 by scores of 6-1, 6-0 to put Barry up 3-1 while 33rd ranked Werschel defeated Shevchenko 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 slot. Rollins started to fight back behind 13th ranked Mahler's 6-4, 6-3 upset over eighth ranked Csordas in the top singles position. Rollins made it 4-3 behind a victory at No. 4 as Luthra downed Wisniewski 6-4, 6-0. The Bucs then put it away in No. 5 singles as Peterson downed Junker 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.
