WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 15, 2008) - Sophomore
left-hander Danny Clark took a no-hitter into the seventh inning
for the Rollins baseball team against Saint Leo in non-conference
action at Alfond Stadium on Tuesday night, but the Saint Leo lineup
rallied for nine runs over the next two innings to defeat the Tars
9-1.' Rollins fell to 24-18-1 with the loss, while the Lions
improved to 26-16.
Clark allowed just four batters to reach base through the first
four innings, with two coming on walks, one on a hit-by-pitch, and
one via error.' With the score tied at zero, Saint Leo second
baseman Jonathan Duncan was hit by Clark's 0-2 pitch to lead off
the seventh, and third baseman Anthony Santa followed with a single
down the right field line to break up the no-hitter.' The Rollins
bullpen took over, and the Lions went to work with four runs in the
seventh and five runs in the eighth.' Clark (2-3) was credited with
the unfortunate loss, lasting six-plus innings with just one hit
and two walks while striking out three.
The Rollins lineup was baffled by the Saint Leo pitching staff,
as Dale Slimick started out with four scoreless innings with just
two hits allowed.' Santi Arencibia (2-0) took over in the fifth,
and he allowed one Rollins run over the next three innings to earn
the win.' Rodney Miller finished the final two innings, not
allowing a Tar to reach base.
The Tars' lone run came in the seventh when sophomore shortstop
Ryan Luker led off the inning with a single and senior left fielder
Mike Crane followed with a double.' Junior designated hitter Eugene
Martinez walked to load the bases with no outs, but the Tars could
only muster one run on a wild pitch by Arencibia.
Rollins will host first place Lynn University in a Sunshine
State Conference series this weekend starting with a Friday night
game on April 18 starting at 7:00 p.m.' Fans can listen to all the
action live on the Citizens Bank of Florida Tars Sports Network at
