WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 5, 2008) ' Winning all
matches on the afternoon in straight sets, the 10th-ranked Rollins
women's tennis team easily defeated Stonehill College 9-0 on
Wednesday afternoon at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex. The win
brings Rollins to a 8-0 overall record on the season.
Dropping only two games in three matches, the Tars' doubles duos
completed the sweep as No. 14 Marnie Mahler and Roshni Luthra
rolled past Samantha Dircks and Daniella Granato 8-1 in the top
seed. Sonia Bernal and Margaret Junker stayed 8-0 in 2008 with a
win over Elise Clark and Lindsey Herchel 8-1 in the No. 2. Silvia
Frandji and Anastasiya Shevchenko wrapped up the doubles
competition by blanking Emily Broderick and Caitlin Ryan 8-0 in the
third spot.
In her first match as the No. 1 seed, Shevchenko defeated
Herchel 6-1, 6-3, while Luthra had an easy victory at No. 2 against
Granato 6-0, 6-0. Junker remained a perfect 8-0 with a win over
Dircks 6-0, 6-0 in the third spot, and Frandji cruised in her match
against Clark 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 4. In her second match of the
season, Syndi Katz beat Allison Bleakney 6-1, 6-1 in the fifth
position as Allie Steele made her Rollins debut with a dominating
victory over Ryan 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6.
Rollins will be back in action tomorrow, March 6 when they host
Clayton College and State University at 3:30 p.m.
