WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 14, 2008) ' A four-run
seventh inning propelled the Rollins baseball team to a 6-4
come-from-behind victory over American International at a soggy
Alfond Stadium on Friday afternoon.' The Tars improved to 19-6-1
overall with the win, dropping the Yellow Jackets to 1-6.
Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, senior center fielder
Corey Whiting started the rally with a leadoff triple to right
center.' Sophomore shortstop Ryan Luker followed with a triple of
his own to the corner in right field to tie the game at three.' The
next two runs came in on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a
fielder's choice, giving Rollins a lead they would hold until the
end.
Junior reliever Michael Eppich (1-0) picked up the win out of
relief, going two and two thirds innings with one run on four hits,
no walks, and one strikeout.' Sophomore right-hander Chad Giannuzzi
pitched the final one and one third innings without a run, picking
up his first save of the season.
Luker and Whiting each had two hits for the Tars, and senior
third baseman Gene Howard went 3-5 with three singles.' The
production was spread throughout the lineup, as five different
players picked up an RBI.
AIC starter Nick Noblit was credited with the loss, allowing
four runs, three earned, through six-plus innings.' First baseman
Kevin Farrell led the Yellow Jackets' lineup, going 2-4 with two
runs and a two-run homerun.
Rollins will return to Sunshine State Conference play with a
doubleheader against Florida Tech on Saturday, March 15 at 1:00
