BOCA RATON (October 15, 2008) Rollins
was not able to get by Lynn on Wednesday afternoon as the result
was a 1-0 loss. The Fighting Knights and the Tars were both coming
off victories in their previous game and looked to keep their win
streaks alive.
The Fighting Knights scored first in the 18th minute off a
corner kick. Tyrell Burgess fired the corner kick in and it found
the head of Lee Porter, who was able to guide it past keeper Aaron
Rokeach. The Tars fall to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in Sunshine State
Conference play, while Lynn improves to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in SSC
play.
Tars keeper Aaron
Rokeach put up a strong effort as he faced 13 shots and made
two saves. The Tars backline showed it was solid and up to the task
of slowing down leading scorer Jean Alexandre. Lynn was forced to
play long kicks into the Tars end in order to generate
offense.
The Tars generated excellent scoring chances as Jacob
Deloach put free kicks on frame all evening long. Deloach came
close to scoring early in the game as a free kick from 28 yards out
sailed and hit the crossbar. The game was hampered by strong winds.
This affected free kicks for both teams and caused Deloach's ball
to sail into the crossbar. Lynn took a 1-0 lead into halftime and
would start the second half heading into the wind.
The second half saw the Tars and Fighting Knights trading
attacks, but neither team could put anything in the back of the
net. The Tars stepped up the pressure and attacks late in the game
as they looked to put more shots on frame and become more
aggressive in the late stages of the game. With three minutes to go
in the game the Tars had a controversial corner kick that seemed to
clear the line, but the referee did not award the Tars with the
goal.
The Tars will take on the Nova Southeastern on October 18th in
Winter Park as this will be the last home game for the Tars.
