DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 26, 2007) ' After a
45-minute delay due to a lightning storm in the surrounding area,
the Rollins men's soccer team defeated Embry-Riddle 1-0 at the
Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium on Sunday night.' Rollins improved to
2-0 on the season, and the Eagles, ranked No. 11 in the preseason
NAIA national poll, dropped to 0-1 to start the year.
Junior Jon Gruenewald scored the game-winner for the Tars in the
57th minute.' Junior Leslie Osei drove a corner kick into the
penalty area from the right side, and sophomore Thomas Biddinger
headed the ball behind him to an open Gruenewald, who was standing
ready to drive the ball past Eagles goalkeeper Viktor
Bergstrand.
Embry-Riddle had an opportunity to tie the game in the waning
seconds of the second half.' Dieter Ritz fired a shot from the left
corner of the penalty area, but Rollins goalkeeper Frazer Siddall
dove to his left to make the save as the clock ticked to zero.
Siddall earned his second straight shutout of the year, saving
two shots for the Tars.' Bergstrand stopped two shots for
Embry-Riddle as well.
The game was fairly even, and although the Tars earned the win
they were out-shot by Embry-Riddle 9-6.' The Eagles also held an
8-5 corner kick advantage.' Rollins was called for 13 fouls
compared to eight for the Eagles.
The Tars will go on the road for a two-game swing in Alabama
starting on Friday, August 31.' Rollins will visit Montevallo at
8:30 p.m. (ET) on Friday, and then the Tars will face
Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday, September 2 at 3:30 p.m. (ET).' Fans
