WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 7, 2007) ' No. 4 seed
Gustavo Carvalho closed out the team match 5-4 by winning nine
straight games over Florida Southern's Alex Thesleff on Saturday
afternoon at the Tiedtke Tennis Courts. The Tars (15-7, 3-2) have
an eight match win streak at home.
Rollins dismantled Florida Southern in doubles action winning
two of three bouts. In the No. 1 match, Brian Compton and Jonathan
Gomez fell to No. 1 ranked Thesleff and Michael Knoedler 9-8.
Carvalho and Pablo Seijo defeated Justin LaFlamme and Guenther
Fercher 8-4 in the second seed. In the No. 3 clash, Bill Rockwood
and Adrian Tan took out Ben Taylor and Roman Schirmaier 8-2.
The Tars captured three of six singles contests on their way to
a huge victory. No. 7 Knoedler routed Compton 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in top
ranked action, while Tan handily defeated Galindo 6-2, 6-3 in the
No. 2 spot. Gomez fell to Schirmaier 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in the third
seed, while Carvalho notched his 15th win of the season by
defeating Thesleff 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 4 match. Seijo did his
part by trouncing LaFlamme 6-4, 7-6 in the fifth slot, and Fercher
was too much for Albin Hubscher who lost 6-4, 6-2.
Rollins will be back in action on Saturday, April 14 against the
Eckerd College Tritons (0-5, 0-3) in their last home match of the
regular season at 1:00 p.m.
