WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 14, 2007) ' In their
fourth game in the 59th Annual Rollins College Baseball Week, the
Tars fell 12-5 to Merrimack College on Wednesday night at Alfond
Stadium.' Rollins dropped to 16-9 with the loss, while Merrimack
improved to 2-6.
Freshman right-hander Michael Prusak (0-1) got the start for
Rollins was credited with the loss, pitching four innings while
giving up six runs, four earned, on eight hits and two strikeouts.'
Sophomore designated hitter Jesse More went 2-3 with one RBI, and
senior shortstop Ryan McKenzie scored a run and picked up two RBI
while going 1-4 with a double.' Freshman second baseman Ryan Luker,
sophomore catcher Eugene Martinez, junior third baseman Gary
Martoccio, and sophomore catcher Anthony Soto each scored a run for
the Tars, and junior first baseman Stefano Foggi picked up an RBI.'
Sophomore reliever Mark Jigarjian pitched two and one third
scoreless innings in relief.
Merrimack starter Dylan Ellis (1-0) went the distance, giving up
five runs, four earned, on 10 hits and one walk over nine innings.'
The left-hander also notched 10 strikeouts for the Warriors.' Third
baseman Mike Andre (3-5, one run, three RBI), shortstop Doug Heald
(2-3, double, three runs, one RBI), second baseman Brendan Pyburn
(3-5, double, three runs, one RBI), and catcher Rick Sotiropoulos
(2-5, double, homerun, one run, three RBI) all excelled at the
plate for Merrimack.
Rollins scored in the bottom of the first to take the early 1-0
lead on a sacrifice fly by Foggi, and they picked up two more in
the second on an RBI single by More and a groundball hit by
McKenzie that led to an error.' The Warriors first got to Prusak in
the third on a single by right fielder Ryan Shepard, and they
started to pile on in the fourth with four more runs, three of
which came on Sotiropolous' homerun.' Merrimack came back with one
more in the fifth and four more in the sixth, breaking out to an
11-3 lead.' The Warriors scored their final run in the ninth, and
the Tars came back for two runs in the bottom of the inning, but
Ellis held on for the final out and the complete game.
Rollins will play it final Baseball Week game on Thursday, March
