BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 1, 2007) ' The Rollins
College women's basketball team defeated the Eckerd College Tritons
60-47 in quarterfinal action at the Sunshine State Conference
tournament held at Lynn University. The Tars will move onto the
semifinals where they will play the Barry University Buccaneers who
defeated the Lynn Fighting Knights 73-38 on Thursday evening at the
de Hoernle Center.
Jennifer Dyer led the Tars with 13 points going 55 percent from
the field and 60 percent from behind the arc. Guard Jennifer
Musgrove and forward Rachael Workman added eight points each with
Musgrove grabbing 11 rebounds for Rollins.
Rollins jumped out to a sizeable lead, 22-7, but the Tritons
began to even the gap before halfime. Eckerd sank 17 points with
the clock nearing the six-minute mark to give the Tars only a one
point lead going into the locker room at the half, 25-24.
Going into the second half, the Tars maintained their composure
as they built their lead up to 11 points with five minutes ticked
off the clock. With 11 minutes remaining in the quarterfinal game,
Rollins dug deep and cultivated a double-digit lead over the
Tritons, 47-37. Eckerd attempted to keep the game close, but the
Tars' offense was too hot. Rollins even led by 19 points with 3:30
left in the game. At the final buzzer, it was the Tars who came out
on top with the win.
Center Gabby Gattuso led Eckerd (7-22, 1-15) with a
double-double of 13 points and 11 boards. Forward Tameron
Armbrister notched eight points, with five rebounds, two blocks and
two steals.
The Tars (23-5, 13-3) will be back in action on Saturday, March
3, when they head to the semifinals of the SSC Tournament against
