WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 3, 2007) ' The Rollins baseball team opened a doubleheader against non-conference opponent Palm Beach Atlantic with a commanding 14-7 victory on Saturday at Alfond Stadium, but the Tars' bats went cold in Game Two, falling to the Sailfish 3-1.' The Tars now stand at 2-1 overall after the season's opening series, and PBA leaves with a record of 1-2.

Rollins started the day hot, scoring 11 runs in the first three innings of the first game.' Junior first baseman Stefano Foggi, senior third baseman Gene Howard, freshman second baseman Ryan Luker, and junior rightfielder Corey Whiting all registered three hits.' Whiting led the team with three runs and three RBI, and Luker and sophomore catcher Anthony Soto also knocked in three.' The Tars had seven extra-base hits, with Howard, Soto, and Whiting each hitting one out of the park.' Senior right-hander Jon Wano (1-0) picked up the win after six innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits and five walks while striking out five.

Raybo Lisle, Tony Livelsberger, and Nick Norley each had three hits for the Sailfish.' Buddy Fisher was credited with the loss after giving up nine runs in two and one third innings.

The temperature dropped as the second game began, and each team had trouble mounting a rally.' Howard took the mound for the Tars and held PBA scoreless through five, but an RBI double by James Gladding tied the score at one.' The Sailfish started another rally in the seventh, forcing Howard out of the game, and a two-run single by Zach Grau off freshman reliever Danny Clark put PBA up for good.' The Tars' one run came on a sacrifice fly by Luker in the second inning.' Howard (0-1) was credited with the loss, and PBA reliever Owen Grau (1-0) picked up the win.

Rollins will return to Alfond Stadium on Tuesday, February 6 for a non-conference game against Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Tech.' The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and fans can listen to all the action live on the Tars Sports Network at www.RollinsSports.com.
