WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 17, 2007) ' The
Rollins College men's tennis team recorded their second shutout in
as many matches on Saturday as they downed Palm Beach Atlantic 9-0.
Rollins, the 17th ranked team in Division II, easily won all three
doubles matches and had just one singles end in a tie breaker to
improve to 2-0 on the year.
Jonathan Gomez and Gustavo Carvalho teamed to win the No. 1
singles match 8-2 over Brock Newton and Paul Segodo with Adrian Tan
and Albin Hubscher joining to down Lukas Colombo and Tyler Dealy
8-4 in the No. 2 doubles match. Pablo Seijo and Mike Compton downed
Frankie Moulton and Rob VanDerscoff 8-3 in the No. 3 slot to make
it a clean sweep for the Tars.
Tan, the 32nd ranked player in Division II, took Newton 6-3, 6-0
at No. 1 singles with Carvalho downing Moulton 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
Hubscher beat Colombo 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 position while Seijo
took Dealy 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. Noah John scored a shutout
over Vanderscoff 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 position.
Gomez faced 46th ranked Segodo in the No. 2 singles match,
dropping the first set 6-3, but taking the second 6-4 and winning
the tie breaker 10-6 to complete the Rollins win.
The Rollins men's tennis team will be back in action on Tuesday,
February 20 at Flagler College. Competition is slated to begin at
2:30 p.m.
