ORLANDO, Fla. (November 4, 2007) ' Senior
Jennifer Musgrove netted 24 points and added a team high nine
rebounds to lead the Rollins women's basketball team to an 82-73
exhibition victory over UCF on Sunday.
The win was the Tars final preseason tune-up before the regular
season, which will begin Saturday, November 17 at home against
Warner Southern.
Musgrove was 9-13 from the field (1-2 three pointers) and 5-7
from the charity stripe on the day. Sophomore forward Brittainy
Daiger had a breakout game, putting up 19 points with junior
forward Ines Teuma adding 12 points and four boards.
Emma Cannon paced the Knights with 22 points and seven rebounds
while Jelisa Caldwell and Angelica Mealing contributed 14 and 11
points, respectively, off the bench.
A layup by Teuma and an old-fashioned three point play by
Musgrove right off the bat quickly gave the Tars a 5-0 lead.
Rollins pushed the advantage to eight with 10 minutes to go in the
first half as a Jocelyn Kelly three pointer put the Tars up 30-22.
UCF battled back and knotted the score at 34-34 with 4:30 on the
clock and eventually grabbed a three point halftime advantage.
Early in the second half, Rollins equalized the score at 46, and
then took the lead for good at the 16:38 mark on a Staci Rossi
lay-up. The Tars continued to pound away and pushed the lead to
double digits, 76-66 with 1:23 left.
Rollins shot 50 percent from the field in the game and held UCF
to 46 percent shooting. The Knights scored a slight edge in
rebounds in the game, 40-31.
