WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 19, 2006) ' The
Rollins women's soccer team started their Sunshine State Conference
season Tuesday night at a wet and rainy Barker Family Stadium, and
the Tars defeated Florida Southern 2-0 thanks to goals by Jennifer
Dyer and Jacquelyn Parsons.
Rollins now stands at 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference, and
Florida Southern dropped to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in conference.
Dyer got the Tars on the board in the 19th minute with her third
goal of the year.' Moccasins goalkeeper Kim Fish stopped an
unsuccessful cross by Rollins, but she fumbled the ball and Dyer
was there to score on the rebound.' Parsons' goal came five minutes
into the second half on a header from a cross by Dyer from the
right side.' Melissa Saint James also was credited with an assist
on the play as she sent the approaching pass to Dyer.
Stephanie Woelfel stopped four shots in goal for the Tars on her
way to her second shutout of the season.' The Rollins defense of
Danielle Martin, Ericka Mohr, Lindsay Taylor, and Alison Tradd
recovered to have a good game after a shaky performance in the 4-3
loss to Embry-Riddle on September 14.' The foursome allowed just
nine shots from Florida Southern.' Fish saved nine and played the
entire game in net for the Moccasins.
As well as her third goal of the year, Dyer registered her
second assist of the season, giving her eight total points.'
Parsons' goal was also her third of the year, and Saint James'
assist was her second.
Rollins will face non-conference rival Palm Beach Atlantic in
West Palm Beach, Fla. on Saturday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m.' SSC
play will continue for the Tars at home on September 26 at 7:00
