WINTER PARK , Fla. (April 8, 2006) The Rollins College women's
tennis team lost another heart-breaker, falling to Eckerd College
at home 5-4. The Tars are now 10-10 on the season, but still carry
a #12 ranking in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis rankings. Eckerd
came in with a #8 national ranking, and now improves to 17-3 with
the win. In a near mirror image to the loss earlier this week to
Florida Gulf Coast, The Tars went down 2-1 in doubles and took
three of the top four singles matches, but were unable to find the
deciding victory.

In
doubles, the Tritons top pair, #15 Madora Mak and Julia Lima
defeated the Tars number one pair, #7 Tasi Purcell and Marnie
Mahler, 8-2. The Tritons also took the number two match, with
Amanda McClure and Rachel Finch defeating Soni Bernal and Cassie
Webster in a very close match, 9-8 (5). The Tars got a victory in
the number three match as Anastasiya Shevchenko and Silvia Frandji
defeated Giana Oliveira and Carolyn Niedermayer 9-8(5) as well.

In
singles, #24 Tasi Purcell defeated #15 Madora Mak 6-2, 6-0. Purcell
is now 14-5. #35 Marnie Mahler got a victory for the Tars against
Giana Oliviera, 6-3, 6-3. And Anastasiya Shevchenko got the other
singles victory for the Tars in the number four match. Shevchenko
defeated Rachel Finch, in a tie break 7-6 (1) and 6-1. Eckerd took
the remaining three matches. Julia Lima defeated Soni Bernal in the
number three match, 6-4, 7-6 (5). Amanda McClure defeated Silvia
Frandji in the number five match, 6-3, 6-3. And Carolyn Niedermayer
defeated Cassie Webster in the number six match, 7-6, 6-3.

Tars will hit the courts again on Tuesday April 11 when they will
play host to conference rival, Florida Southern. The match is set
