LAKELAND, Fla. (April 5, 2006) ' In a tough Sunshine State Conference doubleheader between Rollins College and Florida Southern, the Moccasins pulled out two victories over the Tars, winning 4-0 in game one and 2-1 in the ten inning game two. With the two losses, the Tars drop to 31-13 on the season and 9-9 in the conference while Florida Southern improves to 36-3 overall and 13-2 in the conference.

'

Game one saw the Mocs only out-hit the Tars by one, 4-3, but Rollins had five costly errors, which was the difference in the 4-0 loss. Florida Southern grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first and then was held in check by the Tars for the next three innings. A two-run fifth inning and a one run sixth gave the Moccasins the 4-0 advantage. Sophomore Ingrid Schumacher (Naples, Fla.) was in the circle for the Tars, where she surrendered four hits and four runs while walking only two and striking out five. Stacey Bronson took the win for Florida Southern, throwing the seven inning complete game shutout while allowing only three hits and one walk and striking out five.

'

Sophomores Jen Olsen (Winter Haven, Fla.) and Rachel Almengual (Odessa, Fla.) and senior Kelly Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.) had the hits in the game for the Tars.

'

The nightcap was a close game, as both teams scored an early run to tie the game at one, which lasted until Florida Southern scored the winning run in the bottom of the tenth. The Tars out-hit the Mocs 7-5 in the game, but were unable to capitalize on their base runners.

'

Florida Southern took the early lead in the first after Jackie Leppla singled Jesse Shepherd home from second base. Rollins answered in the fourth when Almengual opened the inning by doubling to left center field and then was brought home by Jamie Rausch's (Ocoee, Fla.) single up the middle.

'

The two teams went into extra innings and Rollins was the first to strike in the top of the tenth as they had runners on second and third after Almengual doubled to center field. The Tars were unable to take advantage of the base runners and the game went to the bottom of the tenth still notched at one. With two out and a runner on third, Angela Williams stepped to the plate and hit a bouncer to the middle of the infield, scoring the runner from third and giving the Mocs the 2-1 victory.

'

Almengual led the Tars in the game, going 2-5 from the plate and scoring one run. Cruz, Rausch, Schumacher, junior Amanda DeFilippo (Winter Springs, Fla.) and freshman Ashley East (Pace, Fla.) had the other hits in the game for Rollins. Freshman Nicole Anderson (Brandon, Fla.) went the distance for the Tars, throwing all 9.2 innings. She allowed only five hits and one earned run and walked two while striking out 14. Bronson and Megan Brown split the effort for the Mocs with Bronson picking up her second win of the evening.

'

Rollins will now head north to Georgia to take part in the Fort Valley State University tournament, with three games scheduled for Friday, April 7 and two for Saturday, April 8. Rollins will then take on Albany State in a Sunday double header.
