BOCA RATON, Fla. (April 28, 2006) ' Behind a solid pitching performance by freshman Nicole Anderson, the Rollins College softball team pounded out a 7-1 win over the defending national champions Lynn University. The Tars out-hit the Fighting Knights 9-6 and used two big innings to grab win number 43 on the season. Rollins is now 43-16 on the season and 12-10 in Sunshine State Conference action, while Lynn falls to 24-24 overall and 7-15 in the conference.

Anderson (Brandon, Fla.) pitched all seven innings for the Tars and surrendered only six hits, one run and no walks while striking out 10. The Fighting Knights lone run of the game was a line-drive home run over the left center field fence by Christina Rolla in the bottom of the first. Anderson and the Tars defense then held the Fighting Knights in check for the rest of the game. Candice VanderVeen picked up the loss for Lynn.

Even though they conceded the first score of the game, the Tars proceeded to score three runs in the third, one in the fourth and three more in the sixth for the 7-1 victory. Senior Kelly Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.) and junior Amanda DeFilippo (Winter Springs, Fla.) both had two hits in the game, with Cruz going 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored, while DeFilippo went 2-3 with one run scored.
