WINTER
PARK, Fla. (April 22, 2006) ' The Rollins College softball team
split their double header with Nova Southeastern University on
Saturday, winning game one 2-1 but dropping game two 2-1 in eight
innings. The Tars now stand at 40-16 on the season and 11-10 in
Sunshine State Conference play while the Sharks are 21-26 overall
and 7-14 in the conference.

Junior
Stacy Sanders (Orlando, Fla.) got the Tars rolling in the first
game, notching her fifth homerun of the season in the bottom of the
second. The Tars struck again in the third when sophomore Rachel
Almengual (Odessa, Fla.) doubled down the left field line, scoring
sophomore Jen Olsen (Winter Haven, Fla.) from second. Rollins held
the 2-0 advantage until the sixth inning when Valen Eberhard opened
the inning with a double and then scored on a sacrifice fly by
Angela Martinez. Tars pitcher Nicole Anderson (Brandon, Fla.) held
the Sharks scoreless over the next inning, grabbing win number 21
on the season. Anderson allowed only three hits, one run and two
walks while striking out six in seven innings of work. Adrian
Tuttle suffered the loss for the Sharks, surrendering seven hits,
two runs, one walk and striking out four. Sanders paced the Tars at
the plate, going 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.

Game
two was a tight affair that took extra innings to determine a
winner. The Tars were down 1-0 early as the Sharks grabbed the
advantage in the top of the third when Ashley Matthews was hit by a
pitch and later scored on a Jada Phillips single. Rollins rallied
to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh with two out.
Freshman Jamie Rausch (Ocoee, Fla.) opened the inning with a single
and reached second on junior Amanda DeFilippo's (Winter Springs,
Fla.) single. Freshman Ashley East (Pace, Fla.) then stepped to the
plate and sent a bouncer to the shortstop who could not coral the
ball, loading the bases. The next batter, Olsen, got a hold of the
Shannon Lynch pitch, sending the ball down the left field line,
scoring Rausch from third and tying the game at one.

In
extra innings, the Sharks recorded two singles and a double against
Anderson, who entered the game in relief of sophomore Ingrid
Schumacher (Naples, Fla.). Callie Binkley's double scored Phillips
from third, giving the Sharks the 2-1 lead. Rollins came to bat in
the bottom of the eighth and were put down in order by Lynch,
ending the game. Lynch recorded her ninth win of the season for
Nova, allowing six hits and no walks or earned runs while striking
out four. Anderson suffered the loss in relief of Schumacher. The
two pitchers combined to surrender eight hits, two runs, one walk
and four strikeouts. Olsen, Rausch and DeFilippo each had two hits
in the game for Rollins.

The
Tars will return to action on Sunday, April 23 for their regular
season home finale. The Tars will host Albany State in double
header scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Lake Island Park. Prior to the
game, the two seniors, Kelly Cruz and Kallie Jones will be honored
for their contributions to the Rollins softball program.
