WINTER PARK , Fla. (April 21, 2006) Gene Howard broke a 2-2 tie in
the bottom of the ninth inning with a game-winning double to right
field, giving the Rollins College Tars baseball team a 3-2 win over
Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Tars (24-20) had left nine men
on base when Howard came to bat with two out in the ninth. But
Howard delivered in the clutch for the Tars, smacking a hit just
past the first baseman which caromed off the bag and into right
just enough to score Tyler Hartman all the way from first base. Rob
Cloar got the win for Rollins, working in relief of David
Nathanson. Cloar has now won two straight decisions, and is 4-2 on
the season.

Gene
Howard led the offense for the Tars, going 2-5 with the game
winning double and a RBI. Sophomore Gary Martoccio matched Howard's
night going 2-5 with a RBI and a triple. Sophomore first baseman
Stefano Foggi went 1-3 with a run scored before being lifted late
in the game for a pinch runner. Shortstop Ryan McKenzie also had a
productive night at the dish. McKenzie went 3-4 with a RBI and a
double.
'
Junior David Nathanson made the start for the Tars. Nathanson had a
little bit of trouble dealing with the rain that sporadically fell
throughout the game. He still worked seven innings while giving up
two earned runs on ten hits while striking-out two and walking two.
Rob Cloar came in relief and was masterful, going two innings
surrendering just two base runners via a walk and a hit, while
striking out two.
