WINTER PARK , Fla. (March 6, 2006) The Rollins College baseball
team dropped its fourth straight game Monday, as they were shutout
by the University of Pittsburgh , 4-0. The Tars (10-9) held their
own against the Division I squad, but couldn't get the bats going
all night. Rollins could only muster three hits against the
Panthers, while Pitt smacked 12 hits off of four Tar pitchers.
'
Junior starting pitcher Jonathan Wano pitched well during his seven
innings but couldn't get the run support. Wano gave up four runs,
only three of which were earned, on nine hits while striking out
five and walking five in seven innings of work. Tyler Hartman,
Steve Mannenbach and Rob Cloar were the only Tars to get hits off
of the Panthers staff.
'
The
Panthers were led by left fielder Sean Conley who went 2-3 with 2
RBI. Paul Nardozzi went 7.1 giving up only three hits and striking
out seven while only walking one batter. Justin Cicatello pitched
1.2 in relief, giving up only one walk and no hits.
'
Pitt
got the scoring going in the top of the first when they got three
hits off of Wano. The third hit by second baseman, Jim Negrych,
ricocheted off of Wano into left field and scored a run. Wano was
able to wiggle out of a bases loaded jam in the third when Morgan
Kielty lined into a double play at first base. However, Pitt would
answer in the sixth with an unearned run. Rollins had its best shot
in the seventh. The Tars had two on with one out but couldn't
convert. Pitt got two insurance runs in the eighth and would go on
to win 4-0.
'
The Tars will be back in
action on Thursday when they will look to snap their losing streak
against Sacred Heart. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm.
