WINTER PARK , Fla. (March 21, 2006) The Rollins bats couldn't capitalize on opportunities Tuesday night at Alfond Stadium and dropped their first home game in four opportunities as the University of Massachusetts downed the Tars, 7-2. The Tars (16-11) out-hit the Minutemen 9-6, however Rollins left 12 men on base and couldn't get the clutch hits when they needed them. Junior Jon Wano took the loss as he went four innings giving up four runs, only one of which was earned.

'

The Tars were led offensively by freshman outfielder Anthony Soto who was the only Rollins hitter with multiple hits. He went 2-5 with a run scored. Sophomore first baseman Stefano Foggi had one of the Tars two RBI on the night as he went 1-4 with a RBI single. Freshman outfielder Tyler Hartman knocked in the other run with a RBI sac fly. Junior shortstop Ryan McKenzie scored the other Tar run as he went 1-4 with a run scored.

'

Junior starting pitcher Jon Wano was chased after just four innings. He didn't pitch badly however. Wano gave up four runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits. He struck out four batters. Wano committed a throwing error trying to pick a runner off of first that cost him two runs. The Tars would follow that up later with another costly error that plated another run.

'

UMass got the scoring started in the top of the third inning. Adam Tempesta began the inning with a lead-off single. Frank McPherson moved him over with a sac bunt. And Bill Rankin drove him home with a RBI single. Rollins answered back with a run in the bottom half of the third. Ryan McKenzie reached second base on an error by the right fielder. He would later score on a Tyler Hartman sac fly. The Minutemen would create some distance between themselves and the Tars with three runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth. Rollins got a run in the bottom of the sixth inning but squandered a chance for more as they left two on. The Minutemen then sealed it up in the top of the seventh with two more insurance runs, and the UMass bullpen closed the doors for a 7-2 win.

'

The Tars will be back in action against Massachusetts on Wednesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 pm.
