Rollins Nipped By Ouachita Baptist

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 19, 2006) ' Playing their fifth match against a top 10 opponent this season, Rollins was once again close to tasting victory, but couldn't come up with the big point as the Tars fell to second ranked Ouachita Baptist 5-4 on Sunday. The loss evens the tenth ranked Tars record at 7-7 while the Tigers improve to 9-2.

Playing in just their third match together, Carlos Custodio and Brian Compton put the Tars on the board with a victory at No. 1 doubles, 9-7 over Emilien Rabin and Alejandro Chong. In the No. 3 doubles match, Jonathan Gomez and David Tafur had a match point, but were unable to convert and fell to Joan Costa and Vagen Akapian 9-8(8). Adrian Tan and Michael Schwartz fell in the No. 2 doubles match to Ondra Vana and Jakub Smid, 8-4.

Down 2-1, the Tars were ready to take control, but couldn't get things turned around and split with the Tigers in singles play. Tan upset 31 st ranked Akapian 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 match while Albin Hubscher also came from behind to take a victory, beating Vasek Stverka 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 6 match. Gomez and Smid locked horns in the No. 3 position with Gomez coming out on top, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 7-6 (0).

Vana downed nineteenth ranked Custodio 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 1 match, Compton had a service break in the third set in the No. 4 match, but ultimately fell to Pintaluba 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 and #48 Tafur was downed by Chong 6-1 (4), 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 5 slot.

Rollins returns to action on Tuesday, March 21 as they will host Jacksonville State at 2:30 p.m.
