AUGUSTINE, Fla. (March 1, 2006) ' Rollins women's tennis team
recorded their second straight shutout and fifth of the season,
defeating Flagler College 9-0 on Wednesday. The Tars (#7 NCAA
Division II) dropped just one set the entire match and improved to
6-4 on the season, while dropping the Saints (#16 NAIA) to 2-2.

Rollins recorded victories in each of the doubles matches by scores
of 8-2. Tasi Purcell and Marnie Mahler picked up their fourth
straight win, downing Sandi Maric and Leigh-Ann Moss in the No. 1
match. Cassie Webster and Sonia Bernal teamed to defeat Alison Hess
and Monica Burbelo in the No. 2 match while Silvia Frandji and
Anastasiya Shevchenko took Amy Eller and Amy Montero in the No. 3
position.

Rollins kept rolling right through singles play, winning five of
the six matches easily. Mahler improved to 2-0 from the No. 1
position, defeating Maric 6-1, 6-2. Purcell took Moss 6-2, 6-0 in
the No. 2 match while Bernal made it five in a row with a 6-3, 6-0
win over Burbelo. Shevchenko, in the No. 4 spot, was forced to a
super tiebreaker for the fourth time this season and for the fourth
time came out on top, getting past Hess 4-6, 6-2, (10-8). Frandji
made easy work of Eller 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5 slot with Webster
scoring a 6-4, 6-0 win over Montero in No. 6 singles.

Rollins will begin their spring break, South Carolina swing on
Sunday, March 5 at Presbyertian College. Competition is schedule to
begin at Noon, followed by another Noon match-up on Monday, March 6
at USC-Upstate. The Tars will conclude their trip on Wednesday,
March 8 by squaring off against Tusculum at Hilton Head.
