CLEARWATER , Fla. (February 7, 2006) The Rollins College baseball
team dropped a tough one on the road to #13 Tampa , 5-2. The Tars
(3-3) hung with the Spartans (2-2) offensively, as Tampa out-hit
the Tars by only one, 10-9. However, the Tars couldn't capitalize
on their opportunities at the plate as they left 11 men on
base.

Freshmen Anthony Soto and Jason Cutlip had the lone RBI for the
Tars coming in the fourth and seventh innings. Soto ended up with
two hits on the night. Junior third baseman Gene Howard finished
with two hits on the evening and scored a run. Senior center
fielder Brent Magnunson went 2-4 with a walk. Senior Eduardo Chile
pitched well throughout most of the game, but he was touched up for
four runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Chile struck out five
in the game.

Freshman first baseman Jose Jimenez had a break out game for the
Spartans. Jiminez went 3-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a stolen
base. Justin Valdez went five innings striking out five while only
giving up one run for the victory.

Jiminez got the scoring started for the Spartans in the bottom of
the third with his solo blast to deep right field in Jack Russell
Stadium. The Tars answered right back in the top half of the
fourth, with Soto's RBI single. The Spartans were able to get to
Chile in the fourth with four runs on two doubles, two singles, and
two walks. The Tars would get a run back in the top of the sixth on
Jason Cutlip's RBI single with two out. However, it wasn't enough
as the Spartan closer, Aaron Cook slammed the door over the last
2.1 for his second save. The Spartans prevailed 5-2.

The Tars will return to
action Friday when they will host regional opponent, Carson Newman
in Alfond Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm. The Tars
are slated to play four games over the weekend with Carson Newman.
Saturday the Tars and Eagles will play a double header starting at
1:00 pm and they'll finish off with game on Sunday beginning at
noon.
