DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
(February 28, 2006) ' Rollins swept doubles competition, but
dropped the top four singles matches as the Tars had to hold on for
a 5-4 victory over Embry-Riddle (5-2) on Tuesday. Rollins came into
the match as the eighth ranked team in NCAA Division II while
Embry-Riddle sits fourth in NAIA.

Rollins (4-4) was solid in each of the doubles matches, winning all
decisively. Carlos Custodio and David Tafur downed Mislav Hizak and
Matthew Lukaszewicz 8-6 in the No. 1 match with Brian Compton and
Jonathan Gomez cruising to an 8-5 victory in the No. 2 position
over Carlos Bes and Konstantin Lazarov. Adrian Tan and Michael
Schwartz went back and forth with Tomoaki Yasuda and Sean Winbauer
before eventually coming out on top 8-5.

The
Tars momentum came to an abrupt halt as the Eagles (5-2) quickly
tied the score to force a decisive No. 5 match. Custodio and Tan
were defeated in straight sets in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches as
Hizak took Custodio 6-1, 6-0 and Lukaszewicz won 6-4, 6-2 over Tan.
Bes won the No. 3 match for Embry-Riddle over Tafur, 7-6(5), 6-4
and Lazarov downed Compton 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 position.

Albin Hubscher picked up a victory for the Tars in the No. 6
singles slot, taking Winbauer 6-4, 6-2. As had been the case two
other times this season, the match came down to Gomez in the No. 5
match. He dropped the first set to Yasuda 5-7, but bounced back for
a 6-4 second set win and 6-3 final set victory to propel Rollins to
their fourth win of the year.

The
Rollins men's tennis team will return to action on Friday, March 3
as they will host Northwood (Mich.) at the Martin Tennis Complex
with the start of competition slated for 2:30 p.m.
